CSA Share: week 1

Yes, that's plastic you see. We went un-prepared today, we'll make sure to have our cloth produce bags next week!

Well for us it's week one. The CSA has been going since the beginning of the season in June, but this was our first week. We've looked at different farms and different CSA's for years now. We've talked about joining one, considering joining one, decided not to for one reason or another and then started all over the following season. That is until we found a farm that gave us no excuses. Garden Treasures. It's local, in season, organic produce, You can pick it up at a farmers market and therefore still pick out your own tomatoes, etc. You can swap out anything you won't use for a substitute item. The price is really great. No excuses. So we bought our share last week and had our first pick up this week. Since we hemmed and hawed about this decision for SO. Darn. Long. I thought I'd share our box with you each week, so you can see what this CSA thing is all about.

Our share this week (economy share):
2.5lbs of potatoes (we chose purple ones!)
1.5 lbs of beans (again, we chose purple)
2 bunches of carrots (we chose 1 bunch sweet nantes and one bunch of... purple!)
1 bulb of garlic
3 'small' (they weren't really small at all) zucchini
2 cucumbers
4 red tomatoes
2 small heirloom tomatoes
4 Nectarines
... I think I got it all...

Since we were at the farmers market we also picked up a few jalapenos, some strawberries, local raw honey, some kale (for chips!), a couple pluots, and some meat for Hubby (local grass fed beef, beef sticks, and beef jerky- he has a backpacking trip coming up). The farmer's market also happens to be right next to Great Harvest Bakery so we picked up a loaf of bread for Hubby and splurged on a GF, DF, EF loaf for Bug and I. All the produce we bought was organic. And delicious. I won't tell you how much we've eaten already...
